Roll on some seven years and I managed to buy this specific drum from Steve Maxwell in Chicago. I wanted a Timeless Timber drum from that point onwards. It was in my local drum shop about twenty years ago, in a glass case opposite the counter. Only that word adequately describes the limited-edition DW Timeless Timber Oak drum set. It has ten Craviotto tube lugs, a 3 point strainer, triple flange rims, 45. This drum is 1 of 3 and is 5.5x14 with a solid steam bent timeless Timber birch shell from 600 year old wood.

Ok, it wasn’t this snare, but was one very much like it, although dare I say it, this one is better looking and more collectible. This small run was designed to pay tribute to Johnny by using his old original badge on one side, plus the current Private Reserve badge on a different panel. The first drum I ever saw and thought, ‘if I ever had the money…’ was a Craviotto Timeless Timber snare.
